Transnet and Traxtion scrap third-party railing pilot as broader reform efforts gain speed

Transnet Freight Rail and Traxtion, Africa’s largest private rail freight operator, have mutually agreed to cancel a third-party railing deal as government’s broader reform plans for the logistics sector gain pace.

Through a competitive bidding process launched by Transnet in April last year, Traxtion was conditionally awarded railing slots eight months later between Kroonstad and East London on the Cape Corridor.

But in a joint statement on Monday, Transnet and Traxtion said they were cutting their losses.
