Traxtion has garnered three awards at the inaugural Railway Safety Regulator (RSR) Rail Industry Awards. In an industry first, Traxton was recognised for the work the company does in and for the rail industry in Africa.

The Rail Industry Awards ceremony took place in Johannesburg on October 24, and was in recognition of the outstanding achievements, innovations and individuals who shaped the rail industry. The ceremony also celebrated the 21st anniversary of the RSR, a significant milestone in the commitment to uphold safety and promote excellence on the rail network.

Nnoni Mokgethi, Traxtion’s Brand, Communications and Marketing Manager, said the awards were a further validation of the work Traxtion has done in Africa and its commitment to changing the way rail services are delivered in Africa.

Traxtion received the Excellence in Training award for training service providers and operator departments involved in rail training in South Africa. The award was given to Traxtion for its QCTO and TETA accredited Training Centre’s significant contribution to training both their in-house staff and that of third parties, thereby creating a pipeline for qualified personnel to service the sector.

The second award was for Best SADC Region Initiative – given to the company with the most exceptional railway initiative in the SADC region. Traxtion’s extensive fleet provides haulage services to companies and governments in Zambia, Mozambique, Tanzania, the DRC and Zimbabwe while its technical services provide support in Senegal and Angola.

The third award went to Traxtion’s Operations Director SSA Elize Howell for Outstanding Nominated Manager. This award is given to the most effective RSR nominated manager recognising them for rail safety compliance, safety management systems within the company and contribution to rail industry forums. Traxtion was one of the first rail companies in South Africa to be awarded RSR certification in 2003.

“These awards are an acknowledgement of the work the Traxtion’s staff have put into the success of the company on the continent.

“Positioning our exceptional services is made so much easier by our wonderful teams across the various countries where we have boots on the ground, our team at the Rail Services Hub in Rosslyn and our extensive supplier network. We thank the RSR for recognising Traxtion, this is a compliment to our people who work very hard to deliver unwavering quality services for the company,” she said.

“As a trailblazer in the African rail industry, Traxtion is committed to striving for and maintaining the highest levels of service and safety standards possible. Our ability to offer a world-class service to rail industry players has allowed us to facilitate the revitalisation of the freight rail industry across the continent.”
