Traxtion, one of Africa’s largest private freight rail operators, has won a major accolade at this year’s GIBS Logistics Achievers Awards (LAA).

The ceremony was held in Johannesburg on Thursday, October 17, and Traxtion received the platinum award for its entry, one that the judges described as “having the WOW factor”.

The goal of the Logistics Achiever Awards is to recognise and redefine professionalism, innovation and excellence in the logistics industry. This award is considered the premier recognition in the logistics industry and has been held since 1989.

Traxtion’s entry focused on the company’s first-to-market rebuild of four 60-year-old GE U20C carcasses into fit for purpose 2000Hp locomotives.

Nnoni Mokgethi, Traxtion’s Brand, Communications and Marketing Manager:
“This award gives credit to the quality of work coming out of our Rail Services Hub. It is a celebration and acknowledgement of what can be achieved with the expertise, skills and innovation of our team members.”

“Morris (Kgama) and I had the simple job of positioning a great project delivery, while the heavy lifting was really done by our wonderful team at the Rail Services Hub and our extensive supplier network. We thank the LAA for recognising Traxtion and our people who made this project a success,” she says.

Mokgethi says the Traxtion team members are specialists in the repairing and maintenance of diesel and electric locomotives as well as rolling stock for mining, industrial, freight and state-owned enterprises throughout sub-Saharan Africa.

“Traxtion’s ability to offer a world-class service to rail industry players, while contributing to the downstream rail economy, has put us at the forefront of innovation and change in our industry. It has allowed us to respond rapidly to these changes and facilitate growth in the rail industry across the continent.

“The successful completion of this project continues our quest to connect Africa and change the way in which freight is moved around the continent,” Mokgethi says.
