This Mandela Day, Traxtion reaffirmed its commitment to creating meaningful and sustainable impact by partnering with PMA Holdings to establish a vegetable garden at the Itireleng Residential Care Facility for the Disabled in Ga-Rankuwa, Pretoria.
Aligned with the 2026 Mandela Day theme, ‘It’s still in our hands to combat poverty and inequity,’ the initiative was designed to create lasting value for the facility and its residents, demonstrating that meaningful change extends well beyond 67 minutes of service.
Established in 2007, the Itireleng Residential Care Facility provides residential and day-care services to adults with disabilities, supporting their well-being, dignity, social inclusion, and skills development. Recognising the facility’s ongoing need for sustainable food production, Traxtion and PMA Holdings established a vegetable garden that will provide a reliable source of fresh produce, help ease food costs for the facility and create opportunities for residents to develop practical skills that support greater independence and self-sufficiency.

In addition to establishing the vegetable garden, blankets were donated to help keep residents warm during the winter months. To support the long-term success of the initiative, practical plant care training will also be provided, equipping staff and residents with the knowledge and skills needed to maintain the garden and ensure its sustainability for years to come.

The project reflects Traxtion’s belief that sustainable community development is achieved through collaboration, empowerment, and practical solutions that address real community needs. The initiative focused on creating a resource that will continue to benefit the facility and its residents for years to come.
